My Role

On this project, I was the Lead Game Designer.

The Idea

I was the one who came up with the idea for the game. I mainly took inspiration from a Mario Party 4 minigame called Stamp Out!, where four Players each have a stamp and try to cover as much of a sheet of paper in their color as possible.

Game Balancing

I felt like the original idea could be a bit more fleshed out, as I didn't want to create a straight-up copy of the aforementioned minigame. Therefore, us designers held a discussion regarding what other features we could add. We decided that a color-draining mechanic would force the Players to think about some of their actions more carefully. For example, the tackle mechanic drains the Player's Paint Meter, so spamming it would be unwise.

We also wanted to include a bomb power-up that would detonate and stun the other Players and medals to indicate which Player was currently in the lead. Sadly, we didn't have the time to implement these features.

Summary

Colors Of The Witch is an arena brawler where four Players compete over who can cover most of a paper in their own color.

Each Player takes control of a brush-riding witch, and they have to cover as much of the paper in their own color as they can before time runs out.

To make this harder, Players can paint over their opponents' colors and even tackle them outside of the arena, preventing them from painting or tackling for a short time. However, all of these actions drain the Players' own Paint Meter. When it's empty, they can't paint anymore and have to refill it by touching a cauldron in the middle of the stage.

The Player who has covered the biggest area of the paper in their color at the end of the match is the winner.
